Happy Birthday To Me

It’s my birthday today. Yay! Do you look back on your life every year, on your birthday or perhaps on New Year’s Eve? Are you grateful for your achievements? Do you remember to thank yourself? I try to be grateful for being me – every day, not just on special occasions. I know what it’s like not to appreciate myself. That’s how you create depression.

For a long, long time I never saw anything but my shortcomings. I know what damage that can do to a person. As I’m pushing 50 I am learning to be kinder to myself.

When I was young I only saw greatness in others. I envied them, I compared myself to them, and I saw my flaws, never my talents. Nobody had taught me about self-worth.

I was pretty good at a lot of things. However, to get really good you have to practise. But if you don’t believe in yourself practise is futile. It won’t work, you think, because you’ll never be good enough.

Change Your Thoughts

If you want to change your life, you first have to change your thoughts. I always had negative thoughts about myself. I put myself and my dreams down, and then I worried I wouldn’t get my share.

Recently I have realised something important. My negative thinking hasn’t helped me to move forward. On the contrary! But every time I’ve had positive expectations good things have happened.

I have also learnt that it makes me happier to use my talents. When I follow my bliss my quality of life improves. It doesn’t matter if others won’t approve of what I do. It’s my own happiness that counts, to create with joy.

Dreams For The New Year

All my life I’ve been searching for my purpose, and this last year I finally found it. It has to do with writing, communicating, storytelling, and connecting with people and their hearts. I want to create bigger and greater things.

The dream for my new year is to finally be able to create my dream job. I hope I can take this blog to the next level, that my book will get published and my screenplay finished.

Yihaaa! 48, here I come! 😀
